Abstract

The historical side of football in Indonesia is often overlooked, especially in narratives and historical literature. In fact, football in Indonesia had an important role in the struggle for independence during the Dutch colonialism. This research revealed that football was able to generate resistance and strengthen a sense of nationalism among indigenous people who were discriminated against by the Dutch East Indies Colonial Government. Resistance to the colonial government through football then gained a platform when the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) was founded in 1930. The data used in this study used sources from books, journals, and articles in the national mass media. The results showed discrimination against indigenous people from the Dutch East Indies football organization, resistance and movement through the football media in the period 1930 to 1945, as well as nationalism that grew through football and PSSI
